[NSFW (in every way)] Yoga Undressed Remains Undressed

[WARNING: This post contains visuals of all life’s God-given flesh]

Happened to come across this link to one of Yoga Undressed‘s promo videos in our comments and thought, “You know what the readers of the Babarazzi need? A nice eyeful of full frontal female asana wonderfulness.” Behold!

Now, so-called “naked yoga” is not a new thing, and has recently been getting a little press (much of it from the UK) with NYC’s own Moira Johnston, who puts NYC’s topless equality laws to the test on the daily, most recently challenging yoga dress codes that discriminate against a woman’s right to go topless.

What’s kind of interesting about Yoga Undressed, however, is that they use the Naga Babas, or “Naga Sadhus” as they refer to them, as a jumping off point. Now, one could talk at length about how the two scenes differ. But, I will say that it’s nice to at least get a nod to something beyond the immediate self as a yogic point of reference.

“Nudity on the part of the Sadhus is a symbol of renunciation of all things material; symbolically, by renouncing their clothes, they renounce ambition and any attachment to objects, emotions or desires. There is a sect of the Sadhus that even renounces sex and embraces celibacy and learns to face the harsh elements without concern for physical comfort or satisfying human desires, including the freezing cold of the Himalayas, where many of them reside. These acts are meant to help break the attachment and identification they have with the physical body and sense organs, and allocate energy and attention towards utilizing the body as a means towards reaching enlightenment.”

Yoga Undressed goes on to talk about the limits of being literally bound by clothing….

“Naked yoga removes any sense of restriction from clothing, promoting a greater sense of freedom during asana practice and thus, an enhanced awareness of the body. Seeing and feeling the body as you stretch and move from one posture to the next, inspires a more mindful, connected practice. When we consider the role that clothing has played in society, it seems to be in direct opposition to the spirit of yoga, which speaks to “oneness” and union. By design, clothing reminds us of our differences. It serves as a distraction that leads us away from a central yogic principal, the commonality of all living things which inspires peace and compassion.”

Now, I’m all for practicing yoga in as little clothing as possible. In fact, I’m always amazed that people (seemingly most people) practice in anything more than a little loin cloth and sports bra. However, I always want something, anything, to keep God’s holy parts from jabbing me in the eye and grill!

Babs’ balls and boobs need to be tied down, know wha’mean? Safer that way. Less painful.

  1. I turned the first video off when she went into advanced salabasana … would anyone meditate naked before an altar?
    No…. didn’t think so … all right, maybe a few ….
Video was obviously done for effect.

    one comments, one question:

    1. “What’s kind of interesting about Yoga Undressed is that they use the Naga Babas, or “Naga Sadhus” as they refer to them, as a jumping off point.” — the FEMALE babas that I saw at the Kumbh Mela were NOT naked. just sayin’….

    2. is that video from John Friend’s personal video library? just askin’….

  3. A few things come to mind while watching that “Yoga Undressed” video
    1) They look like they are limbering up for an orgy
    2) Ditto Linda, did this inspire John Friend’s sex coven, all those candles? Makes me think so…
    3) Who is their waxer?
    4) Naked yoga sounds like an excuse to examine peoples goods before committing to purchase
    5) What’s class protocol in a nude class if someone farts?

I guess someone failed to inform them one of the biggest aphrodisiacs a person has is their own sense of mystery. When the sample is too ample, what’s left?

  4. Thank you for featuring the beautiful yoga session in the nude, a tribute to the human form and the interview of Moira Johnston, topless activist. Both free us from our taboos about human nudity (and our own nudity). GoTopless Day is Aug 26 (in honor of Women’s Equality Day) to encourage women to stand up for their constitutional right to go topless in public on the basis of gender equality. . “Free your breasts, Free your mind! see map of GoTopless events around the world: http://gotopless.org/gotopless-day

Are they using their own mat?

Hey Babarazzi, you jumped the gun last week. This is the greatest yoga video of all time.

  7. gimmicky. where are the men?

  8. “NSFW” is a patronizing, presumptuous euphemism. Your headline says “undressed.” Isn’t that enough? Your label shouts typical American immaturity.

    • Hmmm… I think I like this idea. The presentation a little aggressive, but I like what you’re saying. I will say that simply saying the word undressed does not specify that there we be actual pictures of naked humans, but I get what Yre getting at.

      Noted.

the top ten is the best, thank you!
